George Harrison was the iconic creator and mirror of an indelible cultural era during which people embraced and expressed their creativity through innovative art, music, mind-expanding substances, community living and caring for our earth and each other. As a soul searcher, George embraced Indian spirituality. Meditation and chanting appealed to him and he brought deeper awareness of their benefits into Westernized awareness. He broadened the scope of popular music through his incorporation of Indian instrumentation and Hindu-aligned spirituality.
I loved working on this painting of George Harrison, growing into a deeper relationship with his qualities over days and weeks by focusing with great care on the nuances of his expression. Several times, while painting, it seemed I could hear him whisper to my heart, "Just let it go!" in his delightful British Scouse accent.
I paint my originals in oils on prepared wood board. It's been a fascinating learning experience to translate older grayscale photos into color using only my paints. I also visualize and model missing details and enjoy rendering some objects or backgrounds from my imagination.
You'll receive a giclee printed on fine-art, archival quality paper in vibrant color true to my original painting.
